Porter Baptism

I took Porter to have his pictures done by a great photographer in his new suit before his baptism. We sent out these cute invitations to all our family. He looks like a little missionary!!

All Porter's uncles and grandpa's that took part in the ordinance. We have a wonderful family.

Josh coaches wrestling, and these were all the wrestlers and coaches that showed up to show support for Porter. He looks up to them so much, and it was so awesome to see them all there. Best of all it was Super Bowl sunday, and they came, what a great bunch of kids.

Porter was Baptized on Sunday Feb. 6th, 2011. He was confirmed by his father Joshua. He is such a great kid, with such a obeident and sweet heart. I am so thankful to have him as my son. I cannot believe he is 8! Josh asked him how he felt after his baptism, and he said he felt " all puffy." He is adorable and was so happy to be baptized.

Porter loves sports, and legos. He plays soccer, baseball and wrestles. He even competed in 2 kid triathalons last summer. He loves to help his dad on the farm, and ride the 4-wheeler. What a wonderful kid, and we are so thankful for him in our family, he is so fun-loving, and funny. He told me a girl in his class told him he should be a comedian when he grows up, we just laughed. He is a great student, the top of his class in math and reading, all of his teachers love him. We are so happy for his choice to be baptized.

I loved the creative way to keep a binki in his mouth, binki, hat and blanket wrapped tightly around him! Had to have a picture.

Just after a feeding, via feeding tube, Look at his belly, he is a little full I would say!

Our beautiful baby, Stratton spent 18 days at Timpanogos Hospital NICU. They were wonderful, and he is now happy and healthy. We were so glad to finally get him home and get used to life around here with him.

Porter turned 8 in January. He wanted everything football, and an oreo cake-so this is what we came up with. This year was totally low key- we still had the baby in ICU so we were a little fried come birthday time. He loved it though and got lots of legos, just what he wanted.

First time Josh got to hold him, he was 3 days old.

Right after delivery-before they put him on CPAP and placed the PICC line. I can't stand to look at his legs, they are so bruised and swollen. I guess that's what happens when you come feet first!!

This sweet boys birth was an exciting one to say the least. He was born at 351/2 weeks, I started having contractions in the morning, but by the time I thought we should make our way to the hospital it was around 3 pm. we got all of our stuff together and left. It is 1 1/2 hour drive, but I was doing great, and even questioning if we should go in or not (many pre-term contractions and had been on medicine for weeks). By the time we got to payson I was telling Josh he better get off there because I was going to deliver in the car! I was dying. We decided to keep going to timpanogos where my Dr. was, so Josh drove like a madman, and I freaked out the rest of the way. We got there and I was completely dilated, my dr. came right in and broke my water, checked me, and I hear him say "I think thats an elbow, Nope those are feet!" "we need to get this baby delivered" Feet? really? I had no epidural, no pain medicine, I was begging and pleading with the nurse, but to no avail. I was told I was having the baby now, and without anything!

So we arrived at the Hospital at 5:35 and he was born at 5:55, luckily it was fast, and everything went smooth.

He was having difficulty breathing so they took him right to the nursery, then to the NICU, where he remained for 18 very long days! He is doing well now, and we learned so much. The nurses and Dr.'s we amazing, what a great team they have there. We now have a space in our hearts for the families that have to do this long term, or at all, it is an exhausting experience in every sense of the word. We have more gratitude, and patience, and we are so thankful for the miracle that babies are, and the love, peace and joy they bring into families. We take these sweet babies for granted and they are nothing short of miracles, every one of them. We had and do have a great support system. Thoughts and prayers were offered in large amounts on behal of our family- and we know- we saw them being answered each day. And for now we are grateful to have him home, and love this new little spirit that is now part of us!

We had a wonderful Christmas Season as always filled with friends, family and lots of fun. I was on bedrest with my pregnancy- so low key was our goal this year, but it was still great.

SNOW DAY!!

We had a snow day right before Christmas break, the kids loved it! We got more snow then I have ever seen here-and the power was out for 12 hours. We made a snowman- well uncle Spencer and the kids I took pitures-, made hot chocolate by boiling the water on the stove, and then went to dinner in Delta where they did have power. We finished off the night with lots of games of UNO by lantern. Gotta love days like this to remind us how thankful we are for all the luxuries we do have! (and what we need to get to be prepared for the next one!)

Dance Recital/ Santa

Halle had her first Dance recital just in time for Christmas. We had so much fun watching her and all the other girls "shake it." She was most excited about her costume. And as a special bonus-Santa came at the end and the kids got to sit on his lap.

My Grandpa and Grandma Stephens celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in November. What a feat! They are an amazing example of love and wisdom. We had a family dinner at Maddox steak house complete with singing, they even sang with each other, a slide show, trumpet/piano duet, and cake. They are such wonderful people who love their family and we know it.

Vegas BABY!

We headed to vegas for a quick trip before wrestling season started and the baby is born. We met up with some friends Kent and Mary Bowman, we have such a great time with them. Kent served his mission in vegas so we get a little different experience. We even attended the temple- it was great.

We saw Kevin James and Ray Romano- they were great also. So shopping, eating and playing it was a great get away- then home to real life.

Circus

We took the kids to the Circus this year, they loved it. They got spoiled by Grandma Stephens with cotton candy, slushes, stuffed animals and super cute hats! It was fun to see the animals and all the crazy stuff people can do.

State Fair

So...we attended the state fair again this year. We show cows there so it is a great day for me and the kids to get to see all the other animals, and hang out at the fair. Grandma Lois came up with us this year, she is always a joy to spend time with.

Lion King!!

We went to Lion King in August- most of my family went. This is some of the girls, Me, My mom, Jen (sister), Kristie (sis in law) and Cassidy (sis in law). We had a great time and I was pleasantly surprised at the show. I was very entertaining.

We had a adjustment this year, both of our kids went to school. Porter is starting 2nd grade and Halle started Kindergarten. I was so sad, but it has turned out pretty good. They both are loving school and doing so well. Halle has really taken off, and loved learning and writing all of her letters. She is always asking how to spell words- one letter at a time.- Porter has always been a good student and this continues. Halles bus stop picks up a lot of kids! This was the first day with all of them! All I can say is they have a great time on the bus on the way to school each day!

Hole in the Rock

While we were at Lake Powell we went to see "Hole in the Rock" made famous by the pioneers that we trying to settle the four-corners area. I had just read "Undaunted" by Gerald Lund and it was interesting to see the actual site. I once again was and am amazed at the things the pioneers did all for their faith and love of the church.

We went to Lake Powell this summer and on the way there we stopped at Goblin Valley. We came here each year with my family as a kid, and I really wanted the kids to see it. It was SO HOT!! so we didnt stay too long- but we still had a great time laughing at all of the funny shapes and goofy Goblins in the valley.

Grandma helping Halle show, notice how mom is not helping Halle. I got stepped on in sandals by the cow, and got angry and said in a pretty loud voice "I hate cows!" that doesn't go over so well at a "cow show" filled with dairy farmers. Needless to say I got a few strange looks.

Heber City has a 4-H cow show each year, we love to go and love the area. They do a pee-wee show that all kids can participate in to give them experience. We had a great time and look forward to it next year.

We had a great 4th of July complete with a parade, playing at the park, catching fish with our hands, a childrens bike parade, and of course don't forget a few pouting fits! Josh ran the 5K in Delta that morning and took 3rd overall, he lost to one of his wrestlers, and was harassed all day! We had a great day and are so happy to live in this country.

Halle turned 5 on June19th. I cannot believe it, she is still by baby, no matter what the age! We had a few friends over to decorate cup cakes and play all day earlier in the week. Then on her b-day we were in Provo watching the boys do the Triathlon, we then went to Pirate Pizza with Grandma Stephens, it was so fun. Halle was like "you have to tell them it's my birthday- so they will bring me ice cream and they will all sing to me" She is so funny. We then went to Toy Story 3, then off to our new favorite ice cream place- Farr's in Orem. You make your ice cream however you want, Halle of course topped her's with fruit and a few gummy bears (takes after her mom) Porter the more candy and chocolate the better (takes after his dad).

On sunday it was fathers day so we did a family b-day party with cake and ice cream. Notice the candles, I only put on 4, she was getting ready to blow them out when my sis-n-law noticed! See I really don't want her to grow up! We love you Halls!

Triathlons!!

So Triathlons have really taken off in our house, Josh and I started doing a few, then Josh has gone nuts and does 2-3 a month. He is really competitive and this gives him something to compete in. Well Porter was dying to do one, so they had a kids race at the Provo Tri and we told him if he ran or rode his bike every day he could do it. Thats all it took. He was getting ready everyday and would tell us he was going to train! it was so cute. Well he did awesome and so did Josh winning his age group. I can see this becoming a great father/ son activity..

We spent a great day at lagoon in june...with Grandma Wright, Charity, Derek, Brock, Brynn, and Kenna. The kids had a ball. Porter went on everything except Wicked- we couldn't talk him into that one- he said maybe next year! Halle was too short for most of the big rides and I ended up taking her to the super fun kiddie rides to watch her go round and round on everything!

Josh is an outstanding wrestling coach, he really loves it and connects with the kids well. We were invited to a banquet at Southern Utah University to honor all state championship coaches this summer. It was really nice, they treated the coaches like royalty. When we walked it they presented them with metals they had to wear for the night. It was a great night and great to see them be honored for their accomplishments.

Daniels Wedding

My brother got married on Saturday at the Salt Lake Temple. It was beautiful weather and it was fun to snap some shots of the kids enjoying the beauty of the temple grounds. They loved it!

These are my beauties! I love my kids so much! These were taken the week before easter-due to easter being on conference weekend. They are adorable! We had a great easter weekend filled with easter egg hunts at Grandpa Manzels, making sugar cookies, dying eggs and of course waiting anxiously for the easter bunny to come! The easter bunny was tricky this year and hid our easter baskets- he left a funny note telling us where to look for them with clues. We had a wonderful weekend!!!

He brought home Leprechaun trap, you put the gold under the basket and hold the basket up with the green thing, when the leprechaun goes in it closes on him and he is caught! Too bad we forgot to set it up before bed so we didn't get to give it a try. Porter was pretty upset saying now he would have to wait till next year!

Josh and Kent enjoying the drinks, they soon learned about the "pinadas" and were hooked they had about 10 a day and loved every one of them.

So Josh and I have been married for 10 years this year, I know gasp! I don't want to get old!! Anyway our anniversary is not until June but we were desperate for a vacation and decided to celebrate early. We called our good friends from Oklaholma and they were in so warm and beachy was the only request of the women. We decided on Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. It was eye opening, sad, great, exciting (zip lining and repelling, riding a donkey, a jeep ride with a super crazy driver, watching the people drive around there is nuts! a 4-wheeler tour, shopping, and the sun oh the sun) We had a great time and loved all the beauty that was seen when we were out of the city and in the mountains of that area, Wow it is amazing. Now if only I could have a beach in my backyard I would never complain again!

So we start our year with Wrestling season. Josh is the head coach of Delta Highs wrestling team. He loves it and the boys adore him! He was made for this job... They took state this year for the 2nd year in a row and beat all the other teams by over 100 points. They set a record at region with the highest points ever scored at a region tournament with over 800 points. They are awesome, they work hard and it shows.

Porter starts little league too, we have taken him to some matches on the weekends this year and he does well. He likes to compete but has seen too much domination by the big boys at the high school and expects the same from himself. We need to work a bit on losing gracefully, but it is fun to watch him. He mainly loves the medal collection he has collected. 1 gold, 2 silver, 3 bronze and 1 fourth place.

Porter's Bday party with friends- This was our first experience with a friend party and I might also add it might be our last- These boys were CRAZY!!! We planned a totally fun party and about 15 minutes in I texted Josh and told him they were all just running and screaming... WHEW glad we made it through. I had them decorate construction hats to wear for the party.. they were really cute.

He is also super smart..the best reader in his class..gets 100% on all of his spelling tests...does his homework all on his own, I am so thankful for him and the blessing he is in our family.

Christmas Eve started with a day of Sledding in Holden. The kids had a ball and Halle and I crashed into the fence once, other than that a great day!!

Well January 1st, 2010 and so glad it is, 2009 was filled with lots of fun things as well as some things that we are glad have passed and thankfully don't have to do again (like turning 30!)

We had a great Holiday Season, and a lost camera to prove it. So pictures soon to follow as we recover the camera from Grandma's house. We celebrated Thanksgiving with my family, watched the boys take their annual beating in the "turkey bowl", after they are finished they all line up at the medicine cabinet for a dose of Ibuprofen..HAHA. It is tough to get old.
Wrestling season also kicked off the first of December so Josh is super busy with practice and tournaments.
We had a Great Christmas with christmas eve being at Josh's parents (our neighbors) he had 9 of his 10 siblings there with the other to come the day after Christmas. It was so great to all be together. We got some good pictures, we had a visit from "Santa" (Josh's mom bought a Santa and in return for her cooking prime rib for dinner she told the guys they had to draw to see who got to wear it. They all immediately complained about it, but dutifully drew his paper when it was his turn. The brother who drew the designated paper would not fess up-but Jake was eventually caught. He threw a royal fit saying he would not be santa to our stupid kids, he did not even have kids there! It was pretty enjoyable just watching the fit! But in the end Craig (ambers husband) gave in and was the best santa ever! He made the all but true comment "for being a bunch of world class athletes, your brothers are sure a bunch of poor sports!" and I could not agree with him more.
Christmas Day we went to my parents for a wonderful meal and more presents! We have such a great time together and I am thankful that we all get along so well
The kids were spoiled as ever, Porter getting Legos and Halle getting a Barbie house fully furnished. (Pictures to come soon!)

The last of the memories this season off hand is when we received a picture message on my phone from Matt saying that Santa came early for Maggie his 1 year old. It was a picture with Mags and her darling new kitchen...The kids immediately were saying it's not fair and why did santa come to her already. I told them Maggie must have been such a good girl she got to have christmas early... Halle looks at me and says "Mom, she still poops her pants!, that is not fair!"
Nothing you can do but laugh! Gotta love the kid!

Hope the new year is filled with as many great memories as last, all but turning 30.

We had a great Halloween....We went to Salt Lake to spend time with Grandma and Grandpa Stephens and our cousins. We started the day at Gardner Village to see all the cute Witches, then off to the pumpkin patch for picking the best pumpkins for carving. We had some lunch then back to Grandpa's house to carve.

The kids loved getting there hands messy in the pumpkin guts, all but Halle she ran away and said she was not touching the guts!! So mom and Daniel did her dirty work.

The kids got dressed up and off we went Trick or Treating. My parents live in a great neighborhood and we were only gone for 1 hour and the buckets were full. Halle was true to charater the whole time with her wand and purse. She delicately walked from house to house, the she found out uncle Spencer would carry her so she would get her candy at the door, the yell "Spencer!" and he would pick her up and away they would go to the next house.

Porter ran from house to house, no stopping him. What a good trooper.

We had a great weekend and look forward to another great Halloween next year!!!

We had a free day and took the kids to the Living Planet Aquarium in Salt Lake. Boy did they have fun..

Josh and Porter, Porter is trying to get brave and touch a sting ray... eventually he did it. They were really friendly and showing off the day we went. They were coming out of the water and up on the walls. They really seemed to like us touching them.

We spent the rest of the day shopping, and going to two movies. That is Josh's dream day is movies all day.. he got porter to go to the second one with him. Me and Halle just kept shopping and picked them up later. What a great day!!

My beautiful mother serves on the General Relief Society Board, for the Church. She is an AMAZING woman full of grace and love. This weekend was the General Relief Society meeting, which was on TV, and held in the conference center. My mom had to give the closing prayer, yes thats right pray in front of 20 thousand women in the conference center, in front of the First Presidency and some of the quaram of the twelve, and on TV which who knows how many viewers watched. She was so nervous she was going to pass out in front of the Prophet! She did wonderful and her prayer was so good. Great Job mom! We are so proud!!!

Today Porter was out of school, so we took advantage of the nice weather and went up Holden canyon to collect fall leaves. We found some pretty cool ones, all different colors. The kids collected them in bags and we came home and made placemats out of them with wax paper. Now they can treasure them for the next few weeks!!

This ends our travels to the State Fair. Glad it is over, loved seeing all the animals- hated the stupid rides. Seen one fair, seen them all!!

Def Lepard concert

Okay I am pretty sure I will regret letting anyone know I actually attended the Def Lepard concert, I am so not a fan!! But I drug Josh to Wicked last year and he said this was payback. (I even broke my foot 3 days before and could not get out of it) So the mullet isn't it great?? Our neighbor Tyler had it and said he would wear it if I agreed to go, I held him to it, it was wonderful. We all need a spare one in the Halloween box, just for occasions like this!! All in all, the concert was not that bad, the company was fantastic! Spencer even wore a cut off shirt to add to the occasion too bad he cant keep his eyes open for pictures (this was like the 5th try, and then I gave up!)

Handsome Porter on the first day of FIRST GRADE! that's right my oldest is headed to school all day, and I am not completely excited about it.

Halle wearing her new backpack, pink of course. She has been excited to go to school for a while now. She only goes 2 days a week for 2 1/2 hours. I can totally handle that.

Porter on the other hand, all day?? I have been his mom for 6 years, making sure he is nice to his sister, says "please" and "thank you", eats his lunch, ect.. all you mom's know. Now he is gone at 7 am and home at 3:30pm. Who is going to make sure he washes his hands after he goes to the bathroom? eats all of his lunch so he is not hungry the rest of the day? make sure he is kind to others? Make sure others are kind to him?

I know someday I will be glad to send them out of the house all day, but for now, I would rather we had summer all year long-or I could go sit by him all day at school, which ever is more practical.

The Highlight of Halle's vacation was getting to meet most of the princess'. We stood in line longer to get pictures with them, then any other ride at disneyland, but well worth it, she now carries around all her pictures in her autograph book and shows everyone!

Our ride broke down half way through Monsters Inc. so as they were walking us out, we took the opportunity to take a few fun photos. Josh and Kent hangin with Sully and Boo.

We had such a fun trip and made so many fun memories. We went with some good friends the Bowman's and enjoyed all the good company. The kids were told we all had to go on all the rides and we held them to it. Our second ride was "Tower of Terror" and even we adults were a little scared. The kids took it well and even went again the next day when given the choice. We had fun visiting the beach, Disneyland, Cali adventure, swimming at the Hotel pool, going to a movie, eating good food, Olive Garden yum! my favorite. Although Josh enjoyed the trip as we left he said he was good for another 10 years.

The kids made a teepee out of long sticks, they leaned them up against a tree. They were constantly entertained.

Fishing was great, all the kids caught a lot of fish, Porter got his own pole for his birthday and caught 15 fish all by himself. What a great time!!

Here si the first fish caught by Porter. He said that fishing was the "Best thing ever!" Grandpa was so proud! He did not even play much with the kids while we were at the meadow, he stuck with the men and fished the day away.

We spent the day at "The Res" in Delta, it was really fun, the kids thought they were at the beach!!

We started the 4th of July weekend with a children's parade in Delta. The kids got to decorate their bikes and ride them down main street to the park, where they were given a popscicle. They had a great time.

On the 4th we went to the Parade and to the park. Enjoyed snow cones, cotton candy and all the fun rides they had to offer. What a great day.

We celebrated with a Barbie Diamond Castle party and cake!

Halle's Birthday was June 19, she turned 4. The only thing she wanted to do for her birthday was have a pizza party at Grandma Stephens and sleep over. So off we went to Grandma's and party we did.

This was Halle at home in the morning opening her presents. She told us we needed to take the bike back because it did not have a bike for her dolls! Why didn't we think of that??

So June started off with swimming lessons and T-Ball, this was Porter's first year and he did great, he only had to hit off the T once. He caught on really fast and even started lapping other runners to get to home first!! (I guess he needs a little more help on the rules).

Josh competed in Salem Springs triathalon on Saturday- He did awesome!

He took second in his age division (a heartbreaking loss by only 6 seconds!) he also took second fastest run overall - that is out of about 550 racers! It was great to watch him compete and spend the day together after for our Anniversary.

So last weekend we competed in our first triathalon of the season, we talked most of my family into doing it with us, (Nate, Daniel, Matt and Asher) also a few friends I think everyone had fun. It is hard but great when you finish the race.

The pictures of the kids are them in their "swimming pool" we just built our house, so our yard is all dirt, the kids saw nice weather, got on their swimming suits and made their own pool! Would'nt it be nice to be a kid again and everything be as simple as making a pool out of a wagon!?

Kindergarten graduation!!

Porter graduated from Kindergarten a week ago, his teacher was Mrs. Monroe, he loved school and was one of the top students in his class. We are so proud of him! He did a end of year program and did a mexican dance, hence the outfit.

Halle participated in Gymnastics this year, she loved it. Her teacher was "Mrs. Joann", she learned a few tricks- but mostly had fun jumping on the trampoline! This was her last day with a performance for the parents.
